Eighty percent of the adult population will experience an episode of
debilitating lower back pain over the
course of their life.
Recent research has determined
that how you manage that pain can make
all the difference in whether your pain
becomes a recurrent problem or if you go
on to full and pain free function.
Fortunately, most lower back problems respond well to conservative
physical therapy treatment and avoidance
of activities that promote the pain.
The key component to preventing a
recurrence of the problem is patient
education on proper posture, body
mechanics and an ongoing program of
exercise to normalize spinal function.
Your recovery begins with an evaluation by your Physical Therapist.
All the therapists at Fenton
Physical Therapy have taken extensive
training in spinal evaluation and
treatment (see Staff info).
Your clinical findings will be
discussed and a program of treatment
outlined for you.
You are made an active part of
your treatment program as all research
shows the best results only occur with
the patient participation.
To prevent future episodes of back problems your therapist will
determine the physical limitations that
made you susceptible to lower back pain.
Postural deficits, tight muscles,
limited abdominal control and poor hip
movement may all play a role.
You will be instructed on an
individually designed exercise program
to address the areas important for you
to remain pain free.
