Headaches
are such a common problem that most
everyone has had at least one episode.
For many individuals headache
pain is debilitating and chronic.
It often befuddles doctors and
can lead to problems at home and at
work.
Headache pain can have many
causes, and one of the most overlooked is
improper posture and disturbance of the
upper cervical spine.
These areas are very amenable to
physical therapy and in our opinion,
frequently overlooked.
Your
upper cervical spine is made up of a
complex pair of vertebrae that are
unique in many ways.
Your top two vertebrae are
controlled by an elaborate system of
muscles that connect to the base of the
skull.
They must support the head and
perform a large amount of movement.
Several important nerves and
arteries pass through these bones and
between the structures.
Prolonged postures such as
computer and desk work can overload
these areas.
Prior injuries and traumas also
can cause cumulative stresses that can
reach a symptomatic threshold.
Our
success at treating cervical patients
with headaches has been very rewarding.
We have found our most enjoyable
and appreciative patients are those
bothered with headaches.
