THE KNEE

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Your knee is required to do a complicated job.  It must work between two very mobile joints and perform multiple activities in short periods of time.  Your knee must be able to move through a large range of motion under compressive forces and at fast speeds.  The proper function of your knee is linked to the proper function of your entire lower extremity.  Frequently the knee must carry an extra load if the ankle or hip is not functioning correctly.  If your hip or ankle is weak or tight you can develop pain, inflammation and limited function at the knee.  The skilled evaluation from a Physical Therapist trained to recognize these functional deficits is necessary for a speedy and complete recovery.

After your evaluation, your physical  therapist will initiate appropriate modalities (heat or ice) and manual therapies such as massage, ASTMadvantage Edge™, stretching, joint mobilization and exercise.  An individualized program of exercise will be prescribed and progressed as your pain decreases and your function improves.
